"Because Caregivers Matter"!
We Support Caregivers, Inc. is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Our mission is to encourage and empower family caregivers—those caring for elderly loved ones such as parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or spouses—to prioritize and cultivate intentional self-care.
We are honored to serve caregivers throughout Hampton Roads, surrounding communities, and beyond, offering support, resources, and encouragement to help them make self-care a consistent and life-giving part of their journey.
On April 4th, We Support Caregivers hosted our Caregivers Collective, Plant and Paint! Caregivers were invited to take a meaningful pause, pour into themselves, and tap into their creativity by painting their own pots and planting something beautiful to take home. Each creation reflected their personal style and served as a reminder of growth, care, and new beginnings.
It was a refreshing and uplifting experience filled with connection, creativity, and self-care. A huge thank you to our Vice President, Brittany Thompson and Executive Secretary, Amanda Walker for facilitating and sponsoring this collective. We are also grateful to Socially Established, LLC and Turning Point Church and Ministries for their continued support in making this experience possible. Click on the here to recap this collective.
Recap: Life After Caregiving – Session One
On Saturday, February 28th, the first session of Life After Caregiving was held, creating a meaningful and supportive space for individuals whose caregiving journey has ended or is coming to a close.
Caregiving can be a long and demanding season. When that role ends, many former caregivers are left asking an unexpected question. What happens next?
During Session One, participants gathered in a compassionate environment to begin exploring life beyond caregiving. The session was led by the Life After Caregiving coaches, who guided the group through thoughtful conversation and reflection about the emotional transitions that often follow the end of caregiving. We Support Caregivers, Inc. (Formerly known as Caregivers Supporting Caregivers Network)
We Support Caregivers, Inc. is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Our mission is to encourage and empower individuals who care for their elderly loved ones, whether parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or spouses living with chronic illness, to prioritize and cultivate intentional self-care.
We are committed to supporting caregivers both locally and beyond, reminding them that self-care is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. Because self-care is the best care. Self-care is self-love.
We believe that when caregivers focus on nurturing their physical, spiritual, emotional, mental, and social well-being, they not only care better for others, they become the best version of themselves.
Let us walk alongside you as you learn to care for yourself with the same love and grace you give to others.
We believe the way caregivers care for themselves is a reflection of the love they have for themselves, and it directly influences how they care for and love others.
Self-care is the intentional practice of nurturing one’s physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, and social well-being through consistent, mindful actions. It’s not optional, it’s essential.
Caregivers are the backbone of families and communities, and more individuals are stepping into this role every day, often unexpectedly and without support. That’s why We Support Caregivers, Inc. was created by caregivers, for caregivers, to offer encouragement, resources, and community.
We are a mission-driven organization that values diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are committed to building leadership and teams that reflect a wide range of skills, experiences, and backgrounds.
We believe that inclusivity strengthens our ability to serve caregivers with excellence, both locally and globally.
Our vision is to empower caregivers to live balanced and fulfilling lives by embracing Christian-based principles that encourage self-care as a priority. Caregivers often place the needs of others ahead of their own, and while this commitment is meaningful, it can take a significant toll on their emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. Without intentional care for themselves, many face increased risks of depression, anxiety, and even suicide, challenges that are far too common within the caregiving community.
We believe self-care is not selfish. It is essential. It strengthens caregivers in many ways, including:
💛 Helping them maintain healthier relationships with themselves and others
💭 Encouraging positive thoughts
💪 Building confidence and self-worth
😌 Reducing stress and preventing burnout
😊 Increasing joy and overall well-being
At We Support Caregivers, we are committed to helping caregivers care for themselves with the same compassion they offer to others. Through our supportive programs, workshops, coaching, and community resources, we guide caregivers toward healthier routines, emotional healing, and renewed strength. We believe that caring well for others begins with caring well for oneself. This is not a luxury. It is the foundation of sustainable caregiving.
Congratulation! We Support Caregivers Founder and Executive Director, LaSheena R. McBride was selected as the 2023 Silver Care Dementia Center's Caregiver Award. Listen as she shares her a little of her caregiving story.
